Camp Nano — April Wrap Up

Another Camp Nano (April-flavor) has come and gone. How many of your goals did you meet?

I, personally, didn’t hit my 30,000 word goal — excuses abound, but in the end I added a respectable amount to my current WiP, if not exactly as many as I intended. So what next?

The next NaNoWriMo event is the second camp session, beginning in June. We’ll be back in this space, documenting our progress and good intentions. In the meantime, if you’re looking for something to keep your writing on track, don’t forget about Round of Words in 80 Days, which I most recently wrote about here. If you’re not interested in the public accountability factor but just want something to keep you on track, 750words.com offers a space to track your writing and awards you points as you go:

Every month you get a clean slate. If you write anything at all, you get 1 point. If you write 750 words or more, you get 2 points. If you write two, three or more days in a row, you get even more points. It’s fun to try to stay on streaks and the points are a way to play around with that. You can also see how others are doing points-wise if you’re at all competitive that way. How I see it, points can motivate early on, and eventually the joy of writing will kick in and you’ll be writing without any external motivation at all.

A very special shout out to our dear friend, Freckle, who always is game to join our writing challenges and can inevitably be found in the comment section, commiserating with the rest of us.
